How These Ranges Work

Each option in the calculator is one of the price tiers on our service pages, described the same way: what is included at that level and what it typically costs for a Boise-area home. Picking a tier shows you that published range. Nothing is estimated from a formula, so the number you see here is the number you will see everywhere else on this site.

A range, rather than one figure, is the honest answer before anyone has seen your house. Two bathrooms of the same size can land at opposite ends of a tier because of what is behind the walls, how far the plumbing has to move, and the finishes you choose. The walkthrough is where that gets settled, and it is why our estimate is a written, fixed price rather than another range.

Cost Calculator Questions

Where do the calculator's numbers come from?

They are the same price tiers we publish on our bathroom, kitchen, deck and flooring service pages and in our Boise cost guides. The calculator does not run a formula or adjust for your answers beyond picking the tier, so it cannot give you a number that the rest of the site contradicts.

Is the calculator result a quote?

No. It is a planning range. Your written, fixed-price estimate comes after a free in-home walkthrough, where we measure the space and see the conditions behind the walls and floors. We make first contact within one business day of your request and send the written proposal within one week of the walkthrough.

What moves a bathroom remodel up or down the most?

Moving the toilet, sink or shower drain is the single biggest swing between otherwise similar bathrooms. Age of the house is the next: North End and Hyde Park homes built before 1960 often have galvanized steel supply lines and cast iron drains that must be replaced during a bathroom remodel, which adds roughly $2,000 to $5,000.

What moves a kitchen remodel up or down the most?

Layout changes, and above all removing a load-bearing wall. Many Boise homes built in the 1970s to 1990s have one between the kitchen and living areas. Taking it out needs structural engineering (about $1,500 to $3,000) plus a beam and posts (about $3,000 to $10,000), which is why wall removal sits in the High-End / Structural tier.

What moves a deck price up or down the most?

Height above grade, because it drives post length, framing size, footing depth, guard requirements, stairs and bracing all at once. After height come the decking material, the railing system and how complex the outline is. Every deck footing in Ada County also has to reach 24 inches below grade for frost.

What moves a flooring price up or down the most?

The material you choose and the condition of the subfloor. Older Boise homes, built before 1980, may have plywood or original fir subfloors, and leveling or replacing them adds about $1 to $3 per square foot. It is essential for a quality installation, so we check it at the walkthrough.
